This new(est) edition represented the third time the duo headed emceed the award show, though it also led to by far the most bizarre setup of that trio since COVID-19  caused this year’s event being very socially distanced. Chauvin was arrested last May and charged in the death of George Floyd . Those social media deals are yet to be finalized (according to the city council) and the intent of putting out the messages is to prevent rioting during the trial ( according to the local CBS affiliate ).  The $2,000 flat fee per influencer is a tiny amount when contrasted with the overall $1,181,500 amount that the Minneapolis City Council has approved for the purpose of relaying info to the community during the trial. If the plan works as intended, the city says the influencers, who are reported to have large local followings, will tailor messages for local Black, Native American, Somali, Hmong and Hispanic communities. The so-called “level 3 lockdown” will close all public spaces and end all activity deemed non-essential (going to work at “essential” jobs or going to buy groceries). The rest of the country will enter “level 2” lockdowns that place restrictions on public gatherings. The lockdown will last for seven-days, starting on Sunday. Bonnema asks for changes that include enhancements to the store’s HVAC system, lower customer occupancy, stricter mask enforcement, and a three-strike policy for customers who refuse to wear masks.  “Unfortunately, ASHRAE and the CDC and OSHA have downplayed the dangers of aerosols since the pandemic’s origins, so saying that Trader Joe’s ‘exceeds their standards’ isn’t good enough,” he wrote in the letter.
