The Kelowna Fire Department Dispatch Centre received the fire alarm for a business on the 300 block of Bernard Avenue about 10:30 p.m. Neighbouring business reported an audible alarm and light haze of smoke. Crews arrived to find moderate visible smoke inside the building, says Platoon Capt. John Kelly. Firefighters gained access and located a fire in the middle of the unit. The fire was quickly extinguished. Damage was contained to the area of origin, and there was minor structural damage to an interior wall as well as some smoke damage, says Kelly. Initial findings indicate the cause of the fire was electrical in nature. Fire inspectors will be investigating today to determine the cause. Heavy RCMP presence in Grande Prairie - CTV News Edmonton

A shelter-in-place for a Grande Prairie neighbourhood was lifted early Friday morning. When the order was issued around 7:30 p.m., residents near 115B Street between Range Road 63 and Westpointe Drive were told to stay at home, and residents from outside the neighbourhood were directed to avoid the area.    Mounties did not say why a shelter-in-place had been issued, but that a heavy police presence was in the area and public access was restricted.  The order was lifted around 2:30 a.m. No injuries were reported.  RCMP remained on scene after the order was lifted.  Read the full article here
