When you introduce someone who has all the hits to a man who only does it big, magic is bound to happen.

Big Sean—who is in full-blown music-release mode—and Hit-Boy have shared their new collaborative EP What You Expect on Friday, a week after revealing the project’s lead single “What A Life” alongside a bee-filled music video.

“I was bout to drop a new song tonight, but then I thought… nah, instead I’m a drop 5 new songs tonight,” Sean wrote on Twitter Wednesday. “… Album next! But I ain’t feel like waiting til I was done wit da album bruh, I wanna drop new music, n keep! Fuckin! dropping!”

The new project—which features assistance from Lil Durk, Babyface Ray, 42 Dugg, and Bryson Tiller—is surely not the first time Sean and Hit-Boy have linked, with their musical paths having crossed back in the G.O.O.D. Music Cruel Summer days in 2012 on “Clique.” And Hit-Boy is no stranger to collaborative efforts, either, after having scored a Grammy for Best Rap Album with Nas on King’s Disease, and sharing its follow-up in 2021, as well.

The project is Sean’s first proper effort since he released Detroit 2 in 2020. The album, which debuted atop the Billboard 200, is also up for Grammy contention. So far in his career, Sean has racked up six Recording Academy nods to his name.
