Hurricane Fiona Relief Concert Raises $1.69 Million - VOCM
What a night it was at the Mary Brown’s Centre. Musicians sang and played, the people came and the business community pitched in.
The result: a grand total of $1.69 million—and counting—for victims of Hurricane Fiona. That includes money raised from the We Stand On Guard Again relief concert and the matching funds from the federal government.
Social media told of long lineups for chicken as Mary Brown’s donated 100 per cent of its proceeds from Sunday sales to the cause. It turned out to be their busiest day ever in Newfoundland and Labrador with sales hitting the $335,000 mark.

Greg Roberts, President and CEO of Mary Brown’s, grew up on the northeast coast. He told the concert that feeling bad for the people of the southwest coast is one thing but when he got the call from organizer Chris Andrews, he knew he was going to take it a step further.
Many staff normally take Sunday off but they came in to help the cause. Roberts upped the ante to 100 per cent of sales instead of the original 50 per cent.
Port aux Basques Mayor Brian Button received a standing ovation at the concert.
